News & Updates

Big news this morning at the Pine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in SE Calgary!

We are excited to announce our project moving forward with
Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) and the Government of Alberta to integrate the VelRay X filter into a mobile filtration system. This innovative solution has the capability to filter up to 13,000 m³/day, offering transformative potential for water management in Alberta’s oil and gas sector, particularly in hydraulic fracturing operations.

The system’s mobility enables deployment across diverse sites, streamlining the entire water lifecycle—from sourcing to flowback treatment and reuse—while addressing logistical, operational, and environmental challenges. This proven and reliable technology marks a significant step forward in sustainable water management for Alberta's oil and gas industry.

Today, we celebrate persistence and the next phase in the VelRay X's evolution: a disruptive mobile filtration solution that represents innovation, environmental stewardship, and industry leadership.

Changes have been made to the Aggregate Resources Act, Ontario Regulation 244/97, to manage the beneficial reuse of excess soil to facilitate rehabilitation at pits and quarries.

Changes will take effect on July 1, 2022.

In addition to the regulatory changes, the following policies are highlighted, which also take effect July 1, 2022:

  • - applicants requesting to import excess soil must demonstrate that the quantity of soil is needed for a beneficial reuse that is consistent with the rehabilitation plan for the pit or quarry

  • - when the approved rehabilitation plan does not identify an end use, the excess soil quality standard is restricted to agricultural or other use in accordance with the Excess Soil Standards (PDF)

  • - licensees and permittees will follow best management practices when storing and placing excess soil in pits and quarries

  • - applicants requesting to fill-to-grade must consider potential impacts to the community from the fill operation (such as truck traffic, noise, dust and prolonged life of the site liquid soil (as defined by Ontario Regulation 406/19) will not be authorized for importation at a pit or quarry under the Aggregate Resources Act

The biggest challenge to address will be related to disposal requirements:

Liquid soil (as defined by Ontario Regulation 406/19) will not be authorized for importation at a pit or quarry under the Aggregate Resources Act.
